CHETANA SEXUALITY RESOURCE CENTRE
Chetana (conscience/consciousness) is the centre of all our activities. It is a sexuality resource centre, the first of its kind in Eastern India, a space dedicated to knowledge production, awareness, questioning, challenging, deconstructing and reconstructing gender, sexuality and sexualities.
Chetana is an archive of books, journals, periodicals, news clippings and other forms of publications and has an exhaustive stock of films and videos on sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular.
Chetana organizes discussions and talks around sexuality and other allied issues, video or film shows on special occasions for both members and non-members and accepts interns from colleges, universities and academic institutions from all over the country and abroad.
Internship and research opportunities are available at Sappho for Equality. Students, research scholars from various national and international colleges, universities come to Sappho for Equality for their research work, dissertation and internship. Since its inception Sappho for Equality has been itself actively involved in academic discourses on gender-sexuality. Professional counselling is provided by psychiatrists and counsellors at Chetana Sexuality Resource Centre. Any LGBTIQ person undergoing any kind of critical situation can contact us. The counselling service is a support for LGBT individuals and their family and friends. Please call at our help-line or land-line phone to get an appointment .
Peer counselling is an opportunity to freely mingle and interact with members of LBT community, for the new community persons. It is a process of exchange and sharing of information, through which the newcomer feels more included, safe and comfortable in the community space of Sappho. It is through this informal process of dialogue and interaction that there evolves a bonding between the solitary newcomer and the friends she/he makes at Sappho. Please call at our help-line or land-line phone to get an appointment .
Sappho for Equality runs a 7X11 hours helpline service for LGBT people, their family and the general mass providing information and need based tele-counselling. This helpline was started even before the organisation was registered in 2003. Phone calls from different parts of the country, even from abroad are attended. It is one of the very popular sexuality help-lines in India.
The helpline no is +91 9831518320. It is open every day from 10 am to 9 pm.
Chetana Resource Centre acts as the drop-in centre for members and new community persons who come to share their concerns or just to get introduced to the organisation, its work and members. The Drop-in Centre acts as a space of refuge for any community member who wants a shoulder to share experiences, problems. It functions as a space where the newcomer can feel safe, secure and comfortable enough to open up and interact with the community members. Connecting with new individuals, engaging in ‘Adda’ and lending out psychological and emotional support are what we do at the drop-in centre.
Chetana is open from 12-8 pm for 6 days a week including Sunday (12-6 pm). It remains closed on Mondays.
