CRISIS INTERVENTION AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT  DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Gender-Sexual marginalized individuals have been suffering in myriad ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020. Apart from the COVID-19 outbreak and fear of getting infected, the nationwide lockdown resulted in loss of livelihood, especially for those individuals who work in semi-formal and informal sectors. Such an economic condition rendered marginalized segments of our population even more vulnerable. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown followed by the Super Cyclone Amphan which struck South Bengal from 16th May 2020 and continued upto 21st May 2020, resulted in offices being shut from April to June 2020 because most parts of South Bengal were adversely affected by the cyclone. In North Bengal, the weather conditions and lockdown cut off access to essential groceries, medications and resulted in a lack of financial support due to loss of livelihood. Sappho for Equality conducted relief operation in South Bengal and North Bengal to support Lesbians, Bisexual women, Transmasculine persons as well as Single women.
