2000 Landmarks

1. BREAKING THE SILENCE

Breaking the Silence was the first collaborative public program in collaboration with the British Council. As the name suggests, it was a program that aimed to break the public silence around lesbian visibility.

2. JOINING MAITREE

Sappho engaged in an alliance with Maitree, a Women's forum based in West Bengal, in 2000. This was Maitree’s first engagement with sexuality in alliance with Sappho. Not only was this an extremely important front in the women’s liberation in West Bengal, but also which has the feminist perspective in our cultural context at large.
